Resources

A Building for Your Community is a collection of free to access documents, resources and tools available for community groups and curious individuals looking to explore further. These are useful guides to the basics for anyone looking to learn how to best approach the transformation and improvement of community buildings.

  • Volume 1 was first issued as a newsletter and series of digital events during the first COVID-19 lockdown. Over six weeks, the series connected with over 70 organisations across the UK who were already managing a community building, and those looking to embark upon finding one. Some joined because they were simply curious about what community-led development entails. Volume 1 was delivered in collaboration with Kinning Park Complex as an outcome of our shared learning and knowledge transfer over the years we have worked together on redeveloping their building.

The newsletter asked these questions and tries to provide answers:

    • Is a building the right solution? Getting started and thinking about what you need

    • Where’s the money? Navigating funding, ownership and asset transfer

    • Do you speak architect? Translating community’s needs into an architectural brief

    • From Community to Client. Sharing learning from our project with Kinning Park Complex

  • Volume 2, began as a standalone research project in 2020 exploring the theme of accessibility in our decision making and engagement work. This focus in our practice has evolved over the past decade and in collaboration with disabled people and inclusion consultants, this guide is a starting point for approaching building accessible spaces, asking the right questions and involving the right people in the process

Further resources are planned and in development.
